Our Mission

Reach the unreached Filipinos who are vulnerable to mental ill health or have mental health concerns, to provide psychosocial care to individuals and families suffering from mental and behavioral disorders due to psychosocial stress, including exposure to physical and natural disasters.

WAPR Core Values

We uphold the following beliefs and values:

  • Mental health is integral to the individual’s state of health and covers physical, mental, and spiritual well-being
  • Uphold the dignity of the individual and his/her right to health and well-being
  • Recognize the interconnectedness of the individual with the physical and social
    environment, including the family, community and society
  • Strengthen the individual’s human assets, knowledge, skills, social capital, and
    spirituality
  • Competent delivery of effective & quality mental health care services and making mental health care accessible to individuals, families, and communities, especially those unreached such as those in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas
  • Ensuring that mental health care, including elimination of addictions, accessible to individuals, families, and communities, especially those unreached such as those in geographically isolated and disadvantaged

WAPR Roles and Strategies

  1. Be a technical resource, data generator, and repository of knowledge, professional skills, and information on effective mental health care and the elimination of addictions;
    • Complement government efforts in building the knowledge and evidence base in mental health through studies and research in mental health
    • Conduct studies and research
  2. Be the champion of positive values and advocate for social equity as the platform to reach the unreached for mental health services and
    • Raise the awareness of the public that there is no health without mental health
  3. Be the catalyst and engine for social interventions and effective treatment to transform lives and promote psychosocial well being
    • Foster access to mental health care in the community through the integration of mental health care in general health care.
    • Train and build the capacity of general health and social workers in order to ensure integration and wider provision of mental health care in the country
    • Collaborate with government and /or non-government agencies in programs on mental health promotion and psychosocial rehabilitation.
